Living Ornament (Pictures)

For me a living ornament is like a fungus.

Why do I want to use fungus?
It’s always growing, always on the move.
The fungus is natural, but doesn’t belong anywhere.
I look at fungus as a ornament,
a ornament is ancient and around to please us.

There are 3 different kind of fungus, the one that I like is
called symbiotic, one of this kind is called Lichen.
They’re a combination between fungus and algae.
The can’t live without each other, that’s what I find interesting.
A jewellery can not live without the human body,
Because than it’s just a object.
A lichen grows on wood and stone.
You can find a lichen for example on a grave tomb.
This interest me because a grave tomb stands for old and dead,
And still there’s life on it, new life.

In my jewellery I want to tell stories, look at our history.
I want to put something of me, me as a person, in a jewel.
So my idea was to use some jewellery I inherited
from my grandmother and grow on them.
Like a lichen, new life on something old.
Me living on things from my grandmother.

I’m the lichen on the old jewellery.
